Types of work at PDC
PDC employs people in computer system administration and management, software development for research, computer user support, research project management, and departmental management/administration.
PDC supports research using high-performance computing (HPC) in several ways:
- operating HPC systems and data storage that are used for research,
- assisting researchers in their use of HPC systems and/or storage,
- developing software for research that utilises HPC systems, and
- participating in European, Nordic and Swedish projects that support HPC research.
The main three work groups at PDC correspond to first three of these tasks:
- System operations group (system administrators/managers),
- Scientific services group (application experts and support), and
- Scientific software group (research software engineers).
PDC staff who are involved in project management for Swedish, Nordic or EU projects generally belong to the work group that is most closely related to the project (or projects) they work on.
In addition to the main three groups above, there is also a smaller group that handles departmental management and some administrative tasks:
Note that PDC is an international environment with staff from all the around the world, so the working language is English. This means that, as long as you can manage in English, you can apply to work at PDC even if you do not speak Swedish.
