Introduction to PDC Systems Workshop
Xin Li, PDC
The course “Introduction to PDC Systems” is held biannually and serves to introduce researchers to practical information about the high-performance computing (HPC) infrastructure at PDC. The topics that are covered in the course include an overview of the HPC infrastructure, getting an account for the PDC systems, logging in, running jobs, storing data, and compiling code, as well as tips and best practices for using the Bash shell, SLURM script, the Python virtual environment, MATLAB, and EasyBuild.
The first introductory course for 2022 was held online on the 23rd and 24th of March and was attended by 30 participants. The slides from the course are available at pdc-support.github.io/pdc-intro . Apart from going through the prepared material, course participants were also able to get assistance to log in to the new Dardel HPC system at PDC, practise common procedures and useful commands on the system, and work on several exercises that helped to deepen their understanding of how they can run their calculations on the system.
The next introductory course will be held in November 2022. If you are a new user of the HPC infrastructure at PDC, it is highly recommended that you attend the course in the autumn, and we will do our best to help you speed up the process of becoming comfortable with working in the HPC environment at PDC.
