AI Sweden

AI Sweden  is the Swedish national centre for applied artificial intelligence (AI) and brings together more than 140 partners across the public and private sectors as well as academia. AI Sweden is funded by the Swedish government through Sweden's innovation agency, Vinnova, and public and private partners. Together, the partners invest in generating tools and resources to accelerate the use of AI for solving key societal and business challenges to benefit everyone living in Sweden.

To achieve this, AI Sweden runs projects of national interest together with its partners in areas such as information-driven healthcare, decentralised AI, edge learning in space, and language models for the Swedish language. One example of such a project has been undertaken by the NLU group (Natural Language Understanding) at AI Sweden, which led the development of the first large-scale generative language model for the Nordic languages, GPT-SW3. As part of their development of the next generation multimodal model, the group has, during the summer of 2024, successfully used the Dardel system at PDC to run a curation pipeline to prepare a training data set from a large crawl data set. The pipeline itself uses AI technology for the data extraction. The pipeline will be published as a peer-reviewed scientific paper soon. The new data set will also be released, so it can be used to train even better models in the future.
