All onboard – student completion
The project involves coaching approximately 90 students in study techniques and priorities to establish good study habits during semester 1 of the Master of Science in Information Technology (CINTE) programme. The method is tested to reduce dropouts in the first semester and thereby increase student completion.
Project context
Establishing good study habits early and getting help with study techniques and priorities can be a challenge for our newly admitted students, primarily at the undergraduate first cycle level. Both teachers and experienced students know that continuous studies are effective for achieving successful studies. However, the level of freedom and personal responsibility at a university are significant and there are indications that several students risk falling behind early and that they then do not seek help (e.g. by contacting the study guidance). Falling behind early in the studies is probably one of the more important factors for not completing the studies.
What can we do to ensure that more students get into an effective study rhythm early? All onboard!
Purpose (outcome)
The purpose is to increase student completion by reducing dropouts in the first semester due to poor study results or other KTH-related reasons (e.g. interaction with others). The outcome targets are:
-
Higher student retention and more credits per student year. Good for both KTH's finances, teachers and students
-
Better student completion
-
More efficient studies for students.
Project results (output)
-
Required number of amanuenses recruited and trained
-
140 amanuensis-year1-student meetings
-
Analysis and follow-up of results, comparison with previous years.
Time plan
Start date: 2024-05-01
End date: 2025-02-28
