PhD Courses

INDEK PhD program offers the possibility to attend and complete a set of compulsory third-cycle courses offered at KTH
The courses have been identified to ensure that each doctoral student will acquire a broad knowledge and a systematic understanding of the field, the PhD program, as well as a broad understanding of scientific methodology in general.
These courses total 30 hp and are the following:
- Researching Industrial Economics and Management: An Introduction 7,5 hp. FME3532
- Qualitative Research Methods 7,5 hp. FME3515
- Applied quantitative research methods 7,5hp. FME3551
One of the following courses in philosophy of science (7,5 hp):
- Theory of Science and Research Methodology, Social Science FAK3138 1, 3
- Theory of Science and Research Method, Technological and Natural Sciences FAK3137: Periods(1, 2, 3, 4)
Apart from the compulsory courses above, INDEK's faculty offers subject-specific elective courses that doctoral students may take to customize their study plan depending on their research interests.
The aim to offer specialized courses is to enhance specialist knowledge about selected research topics and methodologies. These courses are identified in consultation between the doctoral students and their supervisors.
Elective courses offered at KTH are the following:

- Econometrics 7.5 credits, FME3543
- Classics in Industrial Management 7.5 credits, FME3534
- Readings in Industial Management 7.5 credits, FME3536
- Advanced Quantitative Methods in Entrepreneurship and Innovation Research 5.0 credits, FME3547
- FME3548 Reflexive and Critical Perspectives on Sustainability Transitions 3.0 credits
KTH Library frequently arranges workshops for doctoral students and researchers. The scope of these workshops includes strategies to choose journals, performing literature searches and using word referencing applications like EndNote, Zotero and more. Apart attending KTH's courses, doctoral students are encouraged to attend and be exposed to international scientific communities by attending PhD schools or workshops where their research can be presented and discussed. As for the elective courses, these communities can be identified in consultation between the doctoral students and supervisors.
