Environmentally friendly meetings and travel

To reduce carbon dioxide emissions, KTH has guidelines for all meetings and travel, domestic and international, conducted by employees and non-employees.
Primarily, you should arrange travel-free alternatives such as web, video or telephone conferences.

Guideline regarding meetings and travel

The guideline applies to all meetings and travel, domestic and international, conducted by employees and non-employees on behalf of KTH.

Guideline regarding meetings and travel

Through business trips and commuting to work, KTH's employees travel a total of approximately 79 million km per year. This equates to 1,971 laps around the globe! It creates up to 18093 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions and costs KTH SEK 85 million in expenses per year.

By meeting travel-free, you contribute to all three aspects of sustainable development, i.e. reduced environmental impact, economic savings and social benefits.

Travel bookings

All travel bookings must be booked through KTH's contracted travel agency, Egencia. Trips are booked via the KTH-RES booking system.

  • Remember to plan and carry out your meetings and trips so that the environmental impact is minimized and that the environmental aspect is taken into account in all decisions regarding means of transport and accommodation.
  • The need to travel should always be evaluated, and as far as possible, travel should be replaced by travel-free alternatives such as web, video or telephone conferences. Travel free meetings .
  • For journeys with good train connections, train must be selected as the first option, eg Stockholm-Gothenburg. For journeys under 50 km, trains must always be selected, e.g. Stockholm-Gothenburg.
  • Flights under 50 km require special reasons (special reasons may be travel time on routes with poorer or no train connection, eg Stockholm-Helsinki) in order to be approved.
  • Local travel should primarily take place by public transport.
  • Taxi and rental cars must be used sparingly and when ordering, a green car must be chosen, and taxis or cars should be shared whenever possible.
  • When planning meetings and conferences, meeting times must be planned with regard to participants who travel by train or public transport.
  • Hotels that are eco-labeled, eco-certified or that can otherwise demonstrate active environmental work should be chosen where possible as long as it is not in conflict with current guidelines.
