Body, Craft, and Wellbeing: Feminist Explorations of An Embodied Approach
Time: Fri 2025-09-26 13.00 - 14.00
Location: 4618 (Flexistudio)
Participating: Xinglin Sun
Abstract
Grounded in feminist perspectives, Xinglin’s research examines the entanglements of women’s bodily experience, craft practices, and pervasive technologies. This talk will first present a prior study that investigates how embodied approaches can facilitate stress self-disclosure among adolescent girls. It will then draw on the Embodied Embroidery workshop, where embroidery was employed as a medium to foster reflection and support women’s mental wellbeing. The talk will conclude with her recent studio project, introduced as a provocation to reflect on the tensions between feminist HCI research and its translation into everyday practice within the Chinese context.
