Templates added for course-specific info about generative AI to course and examination rooms

Published Jun 05, 2025

In a decision by the Faculty Council, all courses are recommended to include course-specific information on how generative AI should be used. E-learning has therefore created four ready-made templates that are intended to aid teachers when creating their own course-specific information. The templates have been added in course and examination rooms in Canvas and are by default unpublished.

The Faculty Council's decision about course-specific information about generative AI

On the 5th of March 2025, the Faculty Council made a decision, recommending that it should be clearly stated how the use of generative AI is restricted in teaching and/or examination. This information should be available both in Canvas and in the course memo.

What has been added to the rooms in Canvas?

Two modules for course-specific information about generative AI have been added (unpublished), in course and examination rooms in Canvas. The modules have been added to courses that have been given or will be given during the semesters HT23 to VT26. One module is in Swedish and the other in English, both including the same content.

Each module contains an instruction page and four templates. The four different templates are based on four different approaches to the use of generative AI in a course:

  • No use of generative AI tools allowed
  • Allowed only in specific assignments
  • Allowed according to given guidelines
  • Free use of generative AI tools.

How do I use the templates?

The modules come with an instruction page, but in short, you should do the following:

  1. Choose one of the four templates.
  2. Edit the template and enter details that apply to your course.
  3. Save your course-specific information.
  4. Publish your course-specific information and the module it is in.

The templates aims to make it easier for you as a teacher, so you can save time and energy. If you already have course-specific information, you can feel free to insert it into a template.

Course-specific information will be included in the course and examination room templates

In future course offerings, the modules containing the course-specific information about generative AI will be included in the templates for course rooms and examination rooms. You will therefore automatically get access to the module in English as all rooms are created with the English template. The module will also be published when added, but only with the page "The course responsible has not yet specified information about generative AI" published. Once you've chosen a template, unpublish this page and publish the template instead.

You can also download the module from Canvas Commons in Swedish or English, as with other material produced by E-learning. Read more about Learning resources in Canvas Commons produced by E-learning .
