Probability theory

Probability theory is a branch of mathematics concerned with the analysis of random phenomena. It also provides the mathematical tools for modeling the noisy nature of the data as well as understanding any related aspects.

The current themes of research in probability theory within the division of Mathematical Statistics include:

- Large deviations and analysis of rare events
- Random matrices
- Stochastic analysis
- Stochastic control and games
- Extreme value theory.
