Unite! Teaching and Learning - The Science of Learning: How to Implement Cognitive Psychology in STEM education
The unite! European University Alliance welcomes all partner’s teaching staff to a series of activities designed to share and develop teaching and learning in an international setting. The Teaching and Learning Unite! activities are aimed at all faculties and staff involved with education in all partner universities. We are inviting you to meet Unite! colleagues to share practices with the aim of developing your own teaching. Get an insight into how teaching and learning is promoted at different partner universities.
The activities – webinars, courses and training events – are run by pedagogical experts from the partner universities and are free of charge for the Unite! community. All activities are held in English and run online. You may receive a certificate, and some of the activities award credits.

Activity 2: Unite! Teaching and Learning - The Science of Learning: How to Implement Cognitive Psychology in STEM education

Cognitive psychology has contributed to our understanding of learning, but how can these strategies be implemented into teaching practices? So far, few instructors are aware of these promising strategies. Therefore, in this workshop, participants will get a chance to familiarize themselves with some of the findings that have received robust support from decades of research. We will examine and discuss how six strategies from cognitive psychology can be implemented in STEM education. Participants will learn more about the basic research about human memory and learning and how strategies can be applied and implemented.
•Understand and know more about the science of learning from a cognitive psychology perspective
•Become familiar with central concepts and strategies and how these can be implemented when teaching and designing courses.
•Get an insight into how cognitive research about learning is conducted and how to design future studies.
•Discuss and practice how key strategies, such as retrieval practice, spaced practice, and concrete examples can promote student learning.
