Instructions for Scholarship Nominations

Instructions for PA recommendations for the KTH Scholarship and the KTH India Scholarship 2024.

KTH Scholarship:

  • A tuition fee waiver for a one or two year master’s programme at KTH

The KTH India Scholarship:

  • A tuition fee waiver for a one or two year master’s programme at KTH and a living allowance for 10 months (1 scholarship)

The Admissions Office sends a list of all of the eligible scholarship applicants to the UA at the Schools. The UA is responsible for sharing the lists with the PAs. The list you receive should include all of the KTH Scholarship and KTH India Scholarship applicants who have applied for your programme as first priority and have paid the application fee.

The simplest way to start your recommendations is to filter the list by programme in column I (programme code) or column J (programme name). For the applicants you would like to recommend for a scholarship, fill in the information in the columns marked in green in the right hand side of the list. All of the applicants that you do not recommend for a scholarship can then be deleted before you send your list back to your UA. This will make it easier for your UA to compile the final list of recommended applicants from your School.

The KTH Scholarship and KTH India Scholarship applicants will appear on the same list and are evaluated based on the same criteria so you are only required to write one recommendation. PA’s are responsible for recommending top students for a scholarship by doing the following:

  1. Assigning a merit value (1-75)
  2. Writing a brief recommendation for why you believe the student should receive a scholarship
  3. Sending your list of recommended applicants to your UA

Merit Values

Merit values should be assigned in the same way as you assign the merit value for admissions to a master’s programme. The evaluation scale for the KTH Scholarship/KTH India Scholarship is the same as the one used for admission to the programme, with a maximum score of 75.

Recommendation

Rank the selected scholarship applicants by the merit values you have assigned and include a brief recommendation for why they should receive a scholarship. In the recommendation, highlight what is unique about this student and makes it likely that he/she will show academic excellence here at KTH. Your written recommendation should focus on aspects of the application other than the ranking of the university and the student’s GPA since these two criteria are considered in a separate evaluation by the scholarship steering group. Recommended aspects you can describe include:

- Grades in courses which are part of the prerequisites of the master program

- Work, project, and research experience relevant to the master program, including publications (the information from the student’s application form is in column S and T)

- Results of competitions and extracurricular activities when they are relevant to the master program (the information from the student’s application form is in column V)

- Relevant teaching experience if applicable (the information from the student’s application form is in column U)

- Rank of the student within their BSc class (for example "rank 2/148 among all students in Mechanical Engineering"), if such information is provided in the official documents or recommendation letters."

The Steering Committee will place great consideration on the written recommendations when allocating the scholarships.

Please note that if an applicant has been recommended for a scholarship, this also implies that the applicant would be admitted to the programme. Therefore, only the top students should be recommended for a scholarship. Only students that have made an application to the KTH Scholarship/KTH India Scholarship can be recommended for a scholarship.

The application form includes information such as school rankings, GPA, work/project experiences and awards provided by the applicants. These columns have been marked in blue on the applicant list. This information should be considered as a tool to assist with your assessment only and should be read with caution and must be checked against the official documents in NyA Webben.

Applicants must also include a motivation stating how they intend to contribute to sustainable development with a master’s degree from KTH. This portion will be assessed by the Sustainability Office after you have submitted your recommendations so you do not need to consider this motivation in your evaluation.

Once you have made your recommendations, send your list to your UA. The UA is responsible for returning the complete list of recommended students to the Admissions Office. The recommendations must be provided to the Admissions Office from your UA by February 19, 2024 at the very latest.

In some cases, your assessment of the specific requirements (SB) and the assignment of merit values (MV) will have to be made before the Virtual Organisation (VO) has made the assessment of the general requirements (GBA) in NyA. This means that some of the applicants might not appear in your programme queue and you will need to look up their application numbers manually.

If you have questions regarding the academic merits of specific applicants, please contact info@kth.se.
