And recently Johan wrote a personal essay on the same theme in the newspaper Vi. There he discusses how the US election in 2024 can be seen as a movement away from political solutions and towards a situation where technology is supposed to be able to solve all our collective problems. In the essay, he reminds us of how violence and injustice continue through the decades while Silicon Valley views everything as a lack of intelligence where smarter machines, a deregulation of the market and a minimal state are the way to a better future.
