Plagiarism review using Inspera Originality

Inspera Originality is a tool for plagiarism checking of assignments and should be used by teachers and examiners when students submit text files in Canvas. Originality is primarily used through Canvas but can, in exceptional cases, also be used independently.

Right now: Long processing times within Originality

Inspera Originality is currently experiencing performance issues which means submissions may take a long time to process, both within and outside of Canvas. Inspera is aware of the issue and is working on a solution.

Contact IT support ( it-support@kth.se ) if the document has been processed for more than 24 hours without generating a report.

Guide your students away from plagiarism

One way to prevent plagiarism is to discuss the topic with students. In this way, you contribute to their knowledge of how to reference correctly. It is always better to help students avoid plagiarism than to punish those who plagiarize. Many students need to gain an understanding of what plagiarism actually means in practice.

How Originality works

Inspera Originality is a tool that helps teachers and examiners review student texts and detect plagiarism and text manipulation. At KTH, Originality is used in connection with digital submissions via Canvas. The review results are compiled into an analysis report that you as a teacher or examiner, need to review. KTH recommends using Originality as an integrated tool in Canvas "Assignments," but it can also be used as standalone in exceptional cases.

How Originality works

Using Originality in Canvas

Inspera Originality can be selected when you create a new assignment in Canvas, or added to an already existing assignment. After the review, the report from Originality will be available directly in Canvas. Here you can read more about how to create an assignment in Canvas with plagiarism checking via Originality.

Using Originality in Canvas

Using Originality standalone

In certain exceptional cases, for example in thesis courses, there may be reason to use plagiarism checking outside of Canvas. In such cases, you as a teacher can use Inspera Originality as a standalone tool.
