Rules and routines for degree projects at first cycle

This page describes the process for degree projects in our programmes within first cycle education at EECS.

Before the degree project

Information on general guidelines, KTH common goals and assessment criteria for the degree project can be found in KTH's regulations: Degree project courses common goals and assessment criteria .

Course codes

Each programme has an assigned course for degree projects that shall be used. The requirements that apply in order to start the degree project course are stated in the course syllabus.

Information for students

All students receive information about the degree project at information sessions during their studies on the programme and via their programme web. General information for all students is available on the Student web .

Admission and registration of the degree project course

During the degree project

During the degree project, the student, among other things, completes a thesis and a self-evaluation. The thesis and the self-evaluation shall be handed to the examiner for assessment. The student shall also participate in presentation- and opposition seminars.

Canvas

Canvas is used for information and communication with students during the course. The students automatically get access to the Canvas room when they are admitted to the course, or manually added by the respective course coordinator (for courses with a common course room).

After the the degree project

When the student has participated in presentation seminars and opposition seminars with approved results they shall submit the thesis to the examiner. The examiner checks the thesis for plagiarism, assesses the degree project and reports the grade.

Plagiarism check

Ouriginal is the tool used for plagiarism control. Information on how the tool is used can be found on the central intranet: Ouriginal review in Canvas and standalone .

Registration of grades

The registration of grades is handled by education-support, see Grade reporting on course and degree project courses .

Recover from failed degree project

If a student gets the grade “F” on the degree project due to, for example, not being carried out within time constraints (one year) or lack of quality, the student must retake the course and carry out a new degree project. This new degree project must be distinct from the failed degree project. If possible, parts from the already carried out project may be reused in the new degree project, such as the literature study and research methods and methodologies. The student must, however, discuss this with the examiner.
