Lifelong learning
Continuing professional development is categorised as lifelong learning (LL). Lifelong learning refers to freestanding continuing professional development courses and contract education that companies and authorities purchase for their employees. Lifelong learning is an important task for KTH, and there are high goals regarding education in lifelong learning.
Continuing professional education
Continuing professional education (Fort- och vidareutbildning, FoV) consists of freestanding competence-enhancing courses for professionals and can be offered as freestanding courses for external applicants or by opening up already existing programme courses for external applicants.
The range of courses advertised as FoV has a different funding form than regular programme courses and are settled through a decision from the vice president for education twice a year. The vice president for education's decision refers to requests from the director of first and second cycle education (GA).
Establishment of an FoV-course
If you are interested in offering a course as an FoV-course, you should contact the study director for your division. The process for setting up an FoV-course is the same as for setting up a programme course, except that the course does not need to be anchored with any programme director and that the deadlines do not apply. Decision on courses within the FoV-offering
Decision on courses that have been granted funding and hence can be given within the FoV-offering next semester is taken in May respective December. Once the decision has been taken, it is important that courses that have been granted funding are established as soon as possible (if they are not already established).
The school's office of student affairs ensures that a course offering is approved, which is necessary for the course to be announced in the following application round on antagning.se. Courses given in the autumn semester are announced 15 March to 15 April, and courses offered in the spring semester are announced 15 September to 15 October.

Contract education
Contract education is offered due to an established agreement with a company or other authority and does not follow the annual cycle of first and second cycle education. These educations can be established throughout the year and with significantly shorter foresight than courses within KTH's first and second cycle education or range of continuing professional education. The funding form for contract education is entirely different since it is regulated via an agreement. However, the courses must always meet KTH's quality requirements and be quality assured according to KTH's regular quality system. This means, among other things, that a course syllabus must be established and that a course offering must be approved.
Establishment of a contract education course
If you want to establish a contract education course, this must first be anchored with the director of studies for the department to which the course will belong. Thereafter, an agreement between KTH and the contractor must be established. For information on the frame of the agreement, contact the school's coordinator for lifelong learning.
Then follow the instructions on the page Establishment of a course to establish a contract education course (ignore step 2). Note that no formal deadlines apply when establishing a contract education course.
