Open call for strategic support within transport

KTH Transport Platform is announcing an open call for activities that meet two or more of the following strategic goals. The deadline for this call is 9 November 2023. Applications are restricted to the transport domain.

Call sub-categories

1. To support conference organisers

  • Enable KTH researcher to organise relevant conferences/workshops
  • Promotion of KTH research environment & platform

2. To support bottom-up activities

Early career researchers are strongly encouraged to apply.

  • Stimulate, facilitate and/or initiate multidisciplinary research activities
  • Increase external funding for research projects
  • Build and maintain external and internal relations
  • Enhance external KTH visibility, recognition and impact
  • Support of strategic outlook events or activities

3. To support platform strategic initiatives

  • Early career researcher
  • Cross-disciplinary/Cross-school activity
  • Research environment that supports cross-school activities
  • Activity related to strategic research areas (Holistic Transport System, Future Transport Infrastructure, Innovative Vehicle Concepts, Policy and Institutional Framework and Transport in the Information Age)
  • Advocacy and networking activity
  • Seed funding to initiate a new collaboration with an external partner

Implementation

  • Independent assessment of proposals by the KTH Transport Platform directors according to a score sheet and ranking in the following consensus meeting.
  • Budget is individually set and distributed top-down in the three sub-categories:
  • Conference organisers: Expected sponsoring SEK 30,000.
  • Bottom-up activities: Granted amount depends on activity, average expected grant is SEK 50,000. Requests for larger sums will be considered depending on the fulfilment of criteria and stated goals.
  • Platform strategic initiatives: Granted amount depends on the activity, please contact the platform.
  • The purpose of the money should be clearly justified, for example, financing pre-studies, writing external project applications, possible infrastructure costs etc. that align with the strategic goals above.
  • Please note that the grant is not sustainable funding for research activities.

Relevance

Is the conference/activity in the Transport domain and are KTH researcher(s) the main organisers?

  • Transport domain: (0: No, 1: Yes - min 1) 
  • KTH researcher (0: No, 1: Yes – min 1)

Goals (specific for application on strategic activities)

How many of the strategic goals does the activity address? (0 .... 5 – min 2)

Need

Is there a need for financial support and is the sponsoring wisely spent (assess also what is done with a potential surplus)?

  • (0: no need & bad investment ... 4: urgent need & valuable investment – min 2)

Promotion

Will the KTH Transportation research environment (e.g. the platform) be promoted?

  • (0: badly promoted ... 4: excellently promoted – min 2)

Value

Will the event be valuable for KTH researchers, the environment, and/or platform?

  • (0: no value ... 4: very high value, e.g relevant for many researchers, flagship event in the area, strategically for KTH, cross-disciplinary, involves researchers from different schools, ... - min 2)

How to apply

Applications should describe the activity/project and explicitly reflect on how it will satisfy the outlined criteria, and how it will meet the goals stated. Applications should also specify the budget. The application should be sent to the platform director, transportplatform@kth.se .

Report request

The platform will request a report with the following questions once the activity/project ends:

  • Brief reflection on how the money was used/what it has enabled
  • Brief reflection on the value for KTH and how the goals were addressed.
  • Brief reflection on how the platform was promoted (including links, flyer pdf or a picture), including a picture of the event that is free to use (if applicable).
