JML activities at MSE

What can be done in practice to achieve a more equal work environment?

There are lots of activites going on to improve gender equality, diversity and equal opportunities. Here you can find some of our MSE activities.

Materials Science and Engineering (MSE)

The main task with our group is to develop awareness about:

  • the topic of equality by regularly talking about it during our department meetings

  • the rules at KTH and MSE by allowing those to be known and easily consulted

  • what misconducts are by providing examples from inside academia

  • who I can contact if I experience a bad situation.

We believe that integration and well-being are cornerstones to achieve a more equal working environment. And after all, all of this is a benefit for our department.

Since 2019 we have accomplished:

  • 2021: setting up the so-called practice-your-Swedish fika because we believe that speaking Swedish is a way to improve one’s inclusion.

  • 2020: creating an informative, welcoming folder for newcomers at MSE, providing the guideline on basic principles of working at MSE and KTH, and informing who is who at our Department;

  • 2020: start up a well-being group for people to interact

  • 2019: a descriptive website on the JML situation at KTH including real-life examples of undesired behaviours;

  • 2019: collect data and examples for bringing consciousness regarding the current situation at MSE and society

Currently, our actions include:

  • creating a survey about the working environment to get a picture on how the information is spread among employees about main rights, duties and possibilities.
    The goal is to use this survey every year to help creating a better inclusive environment in capturing and analyzing what information are not well-desitributed MSE employees

  • enhancing cultural connection and acquaintance with personal and cultural diversity at MSE by organising social events such as ‘international days.’ (on hold due to the current worls pandemic)
