Organisation
The objectives of the SCI PhD Student Council are to promote more effective and higher quality PhD education and research, to promote a stimulating working environment and to improve the general conditions for the PhD students at the SCI school.
The council has regular monthly meetings, where council members update each other on the status of the doctoral education at the different departments. Furthermore, we discuss common objectives for the doctoral education at school level.
Below you can find contact details for key responsible people at the SCI PhD Student Council.
Chairperson
As the primary responsible person in the council, the chairperson coordinates council activity, organizes regular meetings for the council to convey and discuss, and ensures clear communication between council members. They attend forums for the leadership of SCI and for decision making at a school-wide level. The chair is the main link between the PhD students of SCI and school management, including the head of the school and the director of third cycle education.
The chairperson can be directly reached at sci-chair@dr.kth.se
Vice Chairperson
This is the right hand of the chair, supporting the chair in leading the council and partaking in discussions at different fora that have an impact on PhD students at a school-wide level. Together with the chair, they form the presidium of the council.
The vice chairperson can be directly reached at sci-vicechair@dr.kth.se
Presidium
The presidium consists of the chairperson and vice chairperson, and can be reached collectively at sci-presidium@dr.kth.se
Event manager
The event manager is the person in the council that is responsible for organizing school-wide PhD student events. They should join forces with PhD student representatives of different programs if local events are to be organized. They are part of the council board, and as such, attend board meetings and actively discuss with the presidium to provide input for guiding council activity. They are also responsible for organizing the nomination and election process when a new council is to be established.
Webmaster/Education manager
This combined role is also a part of the board, responsible for keeping online presence for the council meaningful and up to date and attending meetings that are important for the development of third cycle education at SCI. They also contribute to the SCI newsletter and are in close contact with the rest of the board to help arrange council leadership details.
PhD student representative (programansvarig doktorand)
The rest of the council is composed of “programansvarig doktorander” (PADs), specifically, one PAD per program. They are the point of contact for students throughout SCI with student representation, and have the responsibility of being visible and accessible in their respective departments. They are in close contact with their “programansvarig” (PA), that is, the program responsible person for their program. They also attend meetings at an institution level (where they actively contribute with PhD student view and opinion) and help organizing onboarding activities for new PhD students within their program.
The PADs can be collectively reached at sci-pad@dr.kth.se .
Current Board members
The board of the SCI PhD Student Council is the body formally making decisions regarding the work of the council. Board members can be reached collectively at sci-board@dr.kth.se
