"We are now going from words to action and taking the next step in the relocation of KTH's campus.
These are the words of Anders Söderholm, President of KTH, following his approval and decision on the programme directive that provides the framework for the continued work on the campus relocations.

In accordance with the University Board's decision in November to concentrate KTH's activities on three campuses, the programme includes the following:

- Relocation of KTH's activities from Södertälje to KTH Campus.

- Relocation of KTH's operations from Kista, with the exception of the Electrum Laboratory, to KTH Campus.

- Relocation of KTH's base year from Södertälje to Campus Flemingsberg.

- Renewed collaboration in Kista

- Renewed collaboration in Södertälje

Many parts involved

The directive also includes an economic analysis, a timetable and how the work on the moves will be organised and who will do what in the form of a programme group that includes a number of functions and people.

"Of course, we are working as broadly as possible since the relocation involves many of KTH's parts, which also link to each other, but as I said, the Electrumlab is not included in this, but is handled in a separate order," says Anders Söderholm.

The overall cost analysis shows, among other things, that based on the expiry of existing leases, savings of SEK 58 million per year in 2024 prices are estimated.

But the cost of moving to other premises is more difficult to calculate as it depends on the type of activity to be relocated and what the needs are. However, it is clear that all staff who move will be accommodated on the KTH Campus based on minor adjustments to the premises.

According to the timetable, the work in its entirety will continue until the end of December 2027. The move from Södertälje will be completed by the end of August 2025 and the move from Kista one year later - by the end of August 2026. The relocation of basic year programmes to Flemingsberg will be completed by the end of August 2025 and the work on developing renewed collaboration with partners in the outside world will be in place by the end of December 2026.

"We are finally moving forward and now have the chance to review and develop our campus environments and the KTH we want to build for the future," says Anders Söderholm.

Programme directive for campus relocation
