KTH Introduces Multifactor Authentication, MFA for the Central Login Service

Multifactor authentication, MFA is currently the single most important security measure to ensure that the right person is the one logging in – meaning that the person trying to gain access is indeed who they claim to be.

MFA means that an additional login factor is needed in addition to username and password. Such step is in the form of an app installed on your phone.

This means:

  • Reduced risk of identity theft and unauthorized access to KTH accounts and their misuse.
  • KTH's IT systems are better protected against various forms of attacks or intrusions by preventing, detecting, and managing threats targeting networks, devices, programs, and data.

“From an information security perspective, the introduction of MFA is about this ever-changing world. KTH, its research groups, and individual employees are today exposed to digital threats and risks in a way that barely existed 10 years ago. To counteract this, KTH needs to provide more secure login for our employees to KTH's services. KTH also needs to be able to analyse such usage patterns to detect attackers and attempts at unauthorized access to data, both in real-time and retrospectively.”
