KTH celebrates 200 years in 2027

Since its founding in 1827, KTH, originally called the Technological Institute, has played an important role in the development of the Swedish society. As we approach the 200th anniversary, it's an opportunity to gather strength and draw inspiration from history to build a stronger institution for the future. We can use the anniversary to showcase our research and education and the societal benefits KTH contributes to, in order to strengthen engagement and interest in KTH.

How can your department contribute to and benefit from the anniversary?

Does your department have activities that could fit into the anniversary? This could, for example, be scientific conferences, strategic projects, or a lab that deserves to be showcased. KTH does many activities during a normal year, and in 2027 these could be given an extra silver lining!

Do you have suggestions or questions regarding the bicentenary?

For suggestions regarding activities and content for the jubilee or the anniversary book, please fill in this form.

For other questions you are most welcome to contact the planning office via e-mail: kth-200@kth.se

What are the current plans?

The celebration will take place throughout the anniversary year 2027 and there is plenty of space in the calendar for initiatives and activities across different parts of the institution. Here is a description of what is already in the planning stages.

The Story of KTH

Work is ongoing to compile and tell KTH's history and role in society – past, present, and future. This material will be used partly for an anniversary coffee table book , as well as on the web, in social media, and in a physical exhibition.

A meeting place on Campus

A feasibility study is underway to review KTH's existing environments to create a natural meeting place where we can showcase our activities, such as activities for prospective and current students, visitors, and for various gatherings.

THE World Academic Summit

In October 2027, KTH will host Times Higher Education’s largest annual event, THE World Academic Summit, which gathers researchers and executives from around the world.

Party!

Of course, we should also celebrate KTH's founding year properly! Festivities will be organized for all employees and students; everyone should feel welcome.
