KTH celebrates 200 years in 2027

Since its founding in 1827, KTH, originally called the Technological Institute, has played an important role in the development of the Swedish society. As we approach the 200th anniversary, it's an opportunity to gather strength and draw inspiration from history to build a stronger institution for the future. We can use the anniversary to showcase our research and education and the societal benefits KTH contributes to, in order to strengthen engagement and interest in KTH.

How can your department contribute to and benefit from the anniversary?

Does your department have activities that could fit into the anniversary? This could, for example, be scientific conferences, strategic projects, or a lab that deserves to be showcased. KTH does many activities during a normal year, and in 2027 these could be given an extra silver lining!

What are the current plans?

The celebration will take place throughout the anniversary year 2027 and there is plenty of space in the calendar for initiatives and activities across different parts of the institution. Here is a description of what is already in the planning stages.

Internal Dialogue Meetings

During the fall of 2024 and spring of 2025, the office will visit as many parts of KTH as possible, to present the work on the anniversary and open up for dialogue, there is room for many ideas and initiatives. Booking of departmental meetings and similar events is ongoing. Also, a dialogue with the student union THS will take place all the way up to the anniversary.

The Story of KTH

Work is ongoing to compile and tell KTH's history and role in society – past, present, and future. This material will be used partly for an anniversary coffee table book , as well as on the web, in social media, and in a physical exhibition.

A meeting place on Campus

A feasibility study is underway to review KTH's existing environments to create a natural meeting place where we can showcase our activities, such as activities for prospective and current students, visitors, and for various gatherings.

THE World Academic Summit

In October 2027, KTH will host Times Higher Education’s largest annual event, THE World Academic Summit, which gathers researchers and executives from around the world.

Fundraising Campaign

An anniversary is a great opportunity to create external engagement for initiatives at KTH. Therefore, the campaign Let’s reach even further  is now being launched with the aim of seeking support for strategically important research initiatives, as well as supporting activities within the framework of the anniversary.

Party!

Of course, we should also celebrate KTH's founding year properly! Festivities will be organized for all employees and students; everyone should feel welcome.
