Changes to KTH’s Personal Menu
KTH’s Personal Menu serves as an entry point to information, courses, and services in everyday work. Work is currently being done to update and modernize its technical foundation, which means that some functions will change or be removed. Here we explain why these changes are taking place and how you, as a user, can navigate them.
What is the Personal Menu?
KTH’s Personal Menu is displayed at the top of the website once you have logged in to kth.se. It contains a set of tabs and settings linked to your KTH account. The Personal Menu includes, among other things, the Teaching and Services tabs, both of which are currently undergoing changes.
The Personal Menu is currently built on older code that needs to be updated to ensure sustainability, security, and future development. As part of this work, some functions need to be removed or changed. The aim is to create a more robust and long-term solution, even though this may require adjustments to established ways of working in the short term.
Changes to the “Teaching” tab
The Teaching tab lists the courses you are associated with. Previously, it was possible to star-mark courses in the Personal Menu in order to collect them under Favourites. This functionality is no longer available.
If you are used to using favourites in the Personal Menu to quickly find your courses, we understand that this may feel like an inconvenient change. An alternative solution that offers the same functionality is to create a personal course overview directly in Canvas instead. In Canvas, you can view all your courses and star-mark the courses you want to appear in your course overview.
Read more about how to star courses in Canvas (community.canvaslms.com).
Changes to the “Services” tab
The Services tab contains links to various digital systems and tools at KTH. Previously, you could choose which services were displayed under Other selected services. This option will be removed, and the services menu will look the same for all users with the same role going forward. This means that the services menu will still contain many important links, but not all of the links that have previously been available. The change will be implemented on 16 February.
If you are used to using the services menu to quickly access specific systems or tools, we recommend bookmarking the services you use frequently directly in your web browser. This provides quick and easy access, regardless of changes to the Personal Menu. You can find a list of all the links that were available in the old services menu below.
