Virtual curriculum for sustainable development in TINTE

The project involves creating a concrete plan for how the qualitative targets in Sustainable Development (HU) is realised in the Bachelor of Science in Industrial Engineering (TINTE) programme, and to create a model and work method that can be used in other programmes at KTH.

Mapped principles

The project is mapped to the following framework principles:

P1. Essential knowledge of the subject

P11. A management system for quality development

This project is implemented at the School of Industrial Engineering and Management (ITM) within the Future Education programme (project no. 2514-ITM).

Project context

Most of the qualitative targets are standardised in the Degree Regulations and all have some form of Sustainable Development (HU) goal. However, there is no usable basis for the Programme Director (PA) to bring into discussions with the course coordinator for how and why HU elements can/should be incorporated into their particular course. At the same time, the PA must report the progression of the qualitative targets in the form of goal matrices during the programme analysis. KTH also has a policy for HU, registry number V-2019-0451, which must be followed.

Purpose (outcome)

The purpose is to create a way to practically fulfil the objectives of the Degree Regulations and implement the KTH sustainability policy in the content and implementation of the education so that students can actively contribute to Sweden's sustainability goals after graduation.

Project results (output)

  • a concrete example of how HU can be integrated into a programme in a systematic way, by creating a concrete plan (so-called virtual curriculum) for how the qualitative targets in HU is realised in the TINTE programme.
  • a working method (including work materials and the structure and implementation of a workshop) that will be developed so that, for example, PAs and teachers involved can identify both existing and potential needs for new or revised course objectives, learning activities and examination elements to meet the programme's qualitative targets regarding HU.
