Qualification Course for Examiners

The aim of the Qualification course for examiners is to acquire or update your knowledge of the current rules and guidelines governing examinations and the role of the examiner in order to be able to act correctly as an examiner. During the course, you will learn more about legal certainty, outcome-based, assessment of equal value, and become familiar with KTH's local regulations regarding course syllabuses and examinations.

Two-hour online course (Swe/Eng)

 has produced an online training course on laws and rules surrounding examinations for examiners and teachers who want to become examiners. However, the course is open to all staff.

The course, which is located on Canvas, is available in both Swedish and English and takes a total of approximately two hours. You choose when to complete the training and whether to divide it into smaller parts.

Learning outcomes

After passing the course you should as an examiner be able to:

  • act in accordance with applicable laws and KTH guidelines
  • seek out and apply the rules that apply to summative assessments at KTH.

Four modules in Canvas

  • Outcome-based assessment - it is the objectives that are to be examined - what does this mean?
  • Fair examination – laws and regulations governing the examination.
  • Assessment of equal value – discrimination, inclusive, adapted and varied examination.
  • Local rules for examination – KTH rules for examination and credits.

Each module consists of reading and practice questions.

Examples of questions from different modules

  • Can the examiner offer an oral exam to a student wit disability if the syllabus specifies a written exam as an examination? (Module 3)
  • Must there be grading guidelines for a lab or exam that multiple people grade? (Module 4)
  • Does each project team member have to be assessed individually in a group project? (Module 4)
  • When and in what ways is it permitted to carry out an Fx completion? (Module 4)
  • If the fire alarm goes off in one of the exam room, must the exam be cancelled in all rooms? (Module 4)
  • Does a student have the right to answer in Swedish, even if the language of the course is English? (Module 2)
  • Does the examiner have to publish suggested solutions after the exam/home exam? (Module 4)
  • How should the final grade be set for a student credited with a grade-forming element in the course? (Module 4)
  • Can the examiner set a time limit for when students can request a re-examination of the correction at the latest? (Module 2)

Examinership for Courses at KTH 1.5 credits

If you want to delve deeper into questions about, for example, learning assessment, cheating, group assessment, reliability in assessment, self- and peer assessment. You will also see examples of difficult cases that the examiner may encounter and discuss how these should be handled.
