Mikael about the quality system for education

Published Nov 17, 2022

Head of school Mikael Lindström writes about the revision of the quality system for education at KTH.

A revision of the quality system for education at KTH is currently under way. One difference is that what was previously called continuous follow-up is now instead called program follow-up and that this must take place every two years instead of every year. It will take place per academic year instead of per calendar year. Within the quality system for education, course follow-up must also take place continuously and annually. Much of what is proposed to happen within course follow-up is already done today, but without a clear connection to the quality system. Development work for better digital aids with course analyzes must be carried out, where the ambition is also for different systems to be able to transfer information between themselves, in order to simplify.

The focus must be on correcting actual quality deficiencies. If something is noticed, an action plan must be drawn up. Instead of a regular review, a focus review is proposed, which takes place when needs are noticed, e.g. a lack of quality or in the case of strategic development work.

There will be no continuous follow-up in 2023, but that does not mean that there will be no quality work in 2023. The first program follow-up will take place in 2024. A bigger portion of the work will be done in the first year and a good foundation for 2024 will need to be laid in 2023.

On the other hand, there will be continuous follow-up of research during 2023. How the action plans from the RAE should be followed up, how quantitative data should be used, and how and with whom quality dialogues should be conducted during 2023, are questions that we will return to.
