Amelie on last week's conferment ceremony

Published Nov 27, 2024

Head of School Amelie Eriksson Karlström writes about last week's conferment ceremony, where 37 new doctors from the CBH school were awarded.

The other week was the time for KTH's annual doctoral conferment ceremony, where newly awarded Doctors are invited to a ceremony followed by a banquet in Stockholm City Hall. As Head of School, I had the privilege of participating in the ceremony and my task was to read out the names of the 37 Doctors from the CBH school who had defended their theses in the past year and who were awarded doctorates this year.

This year's doctoral graduates were spread across the School's postgraduate subjects, with the highest number of doctoral graduates in fibre and polymer technology, followed by biotechnology.

Doctoral studies is one of the most important tasks in our organisation and the doctoral ceremony provides a solemn and atmospheric opportunity to acknowledge all the work that has been done during the training, both by doctoral students and supervisors. It was great to see how happy and proud everyone involved was!

A special treat this year was that Lars Kloo, a professor at the CBH School, had been chosen to act as the promoter for the ceremony. His task was to hand out diplomas to all new doctors, as well as to the jubilee doctors who were recognised this year. The jubilee doctors were awarded their doctorates at KTH 50 years ago and have all had long and interesting careers since then.

Let's hope that the tradition of conferring jubilee doctorates continues at KTH and that the doctors who were conferred this year can already book in the year 2074!
