Head of School Amelie Eriksson Karlström writes about her first meeting with SciLifeLab's new Director Jan Ellenberg.

Last week I had a first meeting at Campus Solna with the new Director of SciLifeLab, who is now in place after a long process where many qualified candidates applied for the position. The new Director is Jan Ellenberg, who comes from the European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL) in Heidelberg, where he has been responsible for activities in cell biology, biophysics and imaging.

Ellenberg will have his main employment at Karolinska Institutet, but he will also be affiliated with Stockholm University and KTH Royal Institute of Technology. Ellenberg is already well acquainted with SciLifeLab, having been chairman of SciLifeLab's International Advisory Board (IAB). In connection with that assignment, he has visited SciLifeLab several times and got to know the organisation. Through his own research, he has also been in contact with several of KTH's research leaders at SciLifeLab, which will hopefully lead to new research collaborations.

I think Jan Ellenberg will be a very good Director, who will be able to lead the development of both infrastructure and research at SciLifeLab in an excellent way, and look forward to the contact with him in the future!
