Amelie on the investigation into KTH Flemingsberg

Published Jan 28, 2026

CBH's Head of School Amelie Eriksson Karlström writes about the investigation into KTH's activities in Flemingsberg and a report with proposals on how to develop activities on campus.

27 January 2026

Last autumn, the President decided that an investigation should be conducted into KTH's activities in Flemingsberg and how they could best be developed further. Gustav Amberg, Professor Emeritus at KTH and former President at Södertörn University, was appointed investigator and has been working on the investigation with the support of Erik Fahlbeck at KTH's Executive Office.

The investigation is now complete and a report will soon be published on KTH's intranet. The report describes current activities in Flemingsberg and provides some suggestions on how to further develop education, research and collaboration at KTH Campus Flemingsberg. Currently, only the CBH School has operations in Flemingsberg, and several proposals concern how KTH as a whole could take a more active role in Flemingsberg, for example by having groups from other schools present and contributing to the activities.

Research on healthcare, logistics and medical technology could be of interest to several of KTH's schools and could be conducted in collaboration with, for example, Karolinska University Hospital in Huddinge and Karolinska Institutet. On the education side, the investigator proposes that KTH formulate an identity for the programmes offered in Flemingsberg, which could be that the programmes have a subject-related affinity, that Flemingsberg is KTH's gateway to southern Stockholm, and/or that Flemingsberg offers particularly interesting teaching methods, such as maker space.

We are now discussing the report, both in the school's management team and in the principal's management team, to see which proposals are appropriate to proceed with. Hopefully, the investigation will provide inspiration and lead the way to further development of Campus Flemingsberg that will benefit both the MTH department, the CBH school and the rest of KTH.
