Mikael on a joint support service at KTH

Published Mar 24, 2022

Head of School Mikael Lindström writes about the KTH president Sigbritt Karlsson's decision that KTH will create a joint and coordinated support service.

The President has decided to instruct the University Director to form an organization for a joint and coordinated support service at KTH. The overall purpose is to ensure operational support with high quality and cost efficiency that contributes to KTH's competitiveness by optimizing teachers 'and researchers' time for teaching and research.

The decision means:

  • A merger between the schools' support services and the University Administration (GVS).
  •  An assignment to the University Director to produce a plan for the continued development of support service at KTH.
  • That the responsibility for all operational support at KTH is based on the President's delegation to the University Director. The responsibility for staff and resources can be delegated further to Heads of Department within GVS and Heads of Administration at the schools.
  • That an equal and accessible support for students, teachers, researchers and staff throughout KTH is assured, and that KTH lives up to its role as a government agency.
  • That all staff will follow into the merger
  • That the program for analysing the support service is transferred to the work with a joint and coordinated organization of the operational support at KTH.

Work is now beginning on producing a basis for an overall plan for how the merger will be implemented in various support areas, and 1 January 2023 is set as the date for the merger to take effect. We will continuously inform about the work and our administrative manager Marie Larson has informed our entire operational support at CBH. We are available as usual for questions and comments.

When the European Research Council has now announced which European researchers will receive the ERC Consolidator Grants 2021, it is clear that 313 will each receive a grant. Four of the researchers are active at KTH and they receive between 1.86 and 2 million euros each for five years. Congratulations to Professor Tuuli Lappalainen, Department of Gene Technology, CBH!
