Mikael about KTH’s future education

Published Mar 17, 2022

Head of School Mikael Lindström writes about a new proposal for a framework for future education at KTH.

The Board of Education is KTH's body for the preparation of strategic educational issues and has the task of discussing overall educational issues at all levels. At the end of 2019, it was stated that a strategic long-term investigation work regarding KTH's future educations should be initiated. In the autumn of 2020, the Board of Education was commissioned by the President to initiate a project with the aim of formulating forms and conditions for future education at KTH. The time horizon is ten years and the starting point is the changes that need to take place for KTH to continue to be a successful education provider. The work has now resulted in a proposal for a framework for future education.

Proposals for principles for future education

A number of basic principles for the framework for future education at all levels have been formulated, in order to give the continued work an overall structure that focuses on the principles that must permeate our organization and operations.

3. A developing educational culture

4. Development of the teacher role and teacher competence

About the learning environment – physical, digital and psychosocial

5. Available experimental environments

6. A living campus

About developed skills and abilities

7. Ability to handle intractable problems

8. Broadened recruitment and participation

About educational design and lifelong learning

9. Technology area-relevant basic knowledge

10. Flexible and structured study paths

11. Developed lifelong learning

About support, administration and quality development

12. A user-oriented business support

13. Quality systems for educational development

Vice President for Education, Leif Kari, will come to our management group in April for a discussion about the framework and it will also be discussed in CBH's school board. We would like you at the departments for this discussion and the heads of department to now have access to the document "The framework for future education".

In these times of unrest in the world, we also need something positive to look forward to, so we would like you to make room in the almanac for CBH's summer pub on 16 June, starting at 4 pm. More information coming soon.
