Mikael on the war in Ukraine

Published Apr 13, 2022

Head of School Mikael Lindström writes about the war in Ukraine and how KTH works to support students and researchers from there.

KTH works primarily to support students and researchers from Ukraine and to assist other authorities up on request. KTH has developed guidelines for the employment of researchers and visiting professors due to the war in Ukraine. Contact the school principal for questions regarding employment opportunities.

Basic principles

  • KTH will primarily support the researchers who have fled to Sweden and are here under EU:s Temporary Protection Directive.
  • Residence permit with temporary protection according to EU:s Temporary Protection Directive currently applies until 2023-03-04. KTH's efforts through employment or scholarship financing for this group of people must therefore be adapted to this time limit.
  • Those who come from Ukraine also have the opportunity to apply for work and residence permits under rules other than the Temporary Protection Directive.
  • KTH must comply with LAS and the requirements for announcing employment.
  • The most important thing at the moment is to find quick and temporary solutions. At the same time, recruitment procedures must take place in an orderly manner.

Information for employees at KTH due to the war in Ukraine is continuously updated here: Regarding the war in Ukraine|KTH .

April 22, KTH will offer an  who have protection under EU’s Temporary Protection Directive and are interested in studying at KTH. The session will include general information on higher education in Sweden, studies at KTH and individual guidance on possible study opportunities.

Despite the unrest in the world, I want to wish everyone a happy Easter!
