Mikael on scenarios for KTH's educational activities

Published May 20, 2021

Head of School Mikael Lindström writes about the scenario description produced by the First and Second Cycle Education Committee to structure the prerequisites for education at KTH.

I want to thank everyone at CBH, and especially our teachers who I know have made heroic efforts during the pandemic, to ensure that our students reach the learning objectives. I know that there is tiredness in the organization, but hold out the last few weeks of the spring term 21 and there will be a summer break.

We all know that the spread of the coronavirus has been capricious during the year we have lived with the pandemic, so at present, it is difficult to predict what the autumn term will look like. The First and Second Cycle Education Committee at KTH has worked out a scenario description which is an attempt to provide as much information as the current situation allows for planning and predictability, both in the short and long term.

The scenario description concretises how education can be conducted at three different levels of influence: low, medium or high. In addition, the President can completely close the campus for teaching and examination if the situation so requires. The President has not yet decided which scenario applies for the beginning of the autumn semester 2021 (HT21), but we are encouraged to concentrate on scenario one, which involves low spread of infection and an open Campus. With the overall focus that teaching and examination where students' learning and the ability to achieve the intended learning outcomes of courses that benefit, or are equally beneficial from being conducted in the digital environment, continue to be conducted digitally. The remaining teaching and examination are conducted on campus.
