Tips for a successful Zoom presentation

Published Mar 31, 2020

Treesearch and WWSC have started a virtual conference series, live streaming presentations two times a week. But just how simple is it to stream presentations? Josefin Illergård, platform coordinator for Treesearch, knows the answer.

“The set-up is really simple. A computer and internet connection, that's really all that is needed,” says Josefin Illergård.

Everything is managed through a Zoom meeting that the participants join. Zoom then streams the meeting to a linked YouTube account. Good sound is also important, but that is easy to fix. In order to get better sound than the computer's built-in microphone, Josefin recommends using a simple headset for mobile, something most people have.

To get a good picture, make sure the speaker is well lit with daylight or lamps placed in behind the computer. Raising the computer up, for example with cardboard boxes, provides a better camera angle.

“If you have fixed the technical basics, sound and image, you can focus on the important thing: the audience. There it is no different from other presentations - the audience is always most important”, says Josefin Illergård.

Instructions on how to link their Zoom meeting to streaming services can be found at Zoom's website .
