Procedure for on-campus written examination and examination in computer rooms

Here you can find information regarding examination, what you are expected as a teacher to do before, during and after an examination. One condition for the planning of an examination is that correct schedule documentation has been submitted into Kopps and that the examination complies with the applicable course syllabus.

For information on regulations that generally apply to examinations, see KTH's regulatory framework:

Before examination

Check the schedule

Check that the examination and the re-examination are present in the course schedule. Please note that old course codes also need to be scheduled if an examination should be offered. Change of date/time for the examination after the schedule has been published is not possible, according to the president's decision with registration number V-2019-0109.

For examination in computer rooms, it is important to check that the correct type of computer room is used; Windows computers when you plan to use lockdown ( ), for examination in unlocked computer rooms, feel free to use Ubuntu or Mac rooms. Contact education-support@eecs.kth.se if SEB shall be used for your examination, no later than 14 working days before the examination. SEB is ordered by the exam administration.

Doctoral courses

In case a course is given for doctoral students who are to write the examination together with a course at second cycle, the course code for the doctoral course must also be added to the same scheduled examination as for the second cycle course.

Upload the examination with cover

Upload the examination with the cover below as a PDF file in the KTH OneDrive folder you have been assigned, three working days before the exam (e.g. for an exam given on a Thursday, it must be available to the exam administrators no later than Monday morning at 06:00). If you don’t have access to such a folder, please contact education-suport@eecs.kth.se. You can advantageously ask a colleague to review the task formulations before uploading them to OneDrive.

Please note that all information must be filled in on the cover and will be page 1 of the exam question paper. Subsequent page 2 shall consist of the exam questions.

Registration for examination

Students register for examinations via their personal menu. If the students have problems registering, please direct them to, within the registration period for the exam, the student service support via the web form at the Student web . Students who want to take the exam for a higher grade (grade raising), also register via the form during the registration period. No late registrations are accepted, regardless of the reason.

Students with disabilities

See information at the page Compensatory support for students with disabilities .

Examination on another location

After applying for it, a student may carry out an examination elsewhere if there are special reasons for doing so and if the examiner deems it appropriate. Examples of special reasons may be that the student conducts exchange studies.

Decisions on distance examination are made by the examiner.

Students that need to write on another location shall, after obtaining approval from the examiner, contact the student desk office via web form found at the Student web  with their request within the registration period for the examination. The examination must be carried out on the same date and time as the examination at KTH takes place.

It is the student's responsibility to provide information on a contact person at the requested university.

During examination

As the course coordinator/examiner, you are obliged to know and follow KTH's guideline on written on-campus exam (pdf) . If you are unsure, always contact the exam administration or ask an exam invigilator.

Sometimes, rooms specified in the schedule are not the rooms that are eventually used for the examination. You can see the rooms in TimeEdit. For examinations in Kista it is also possible to check the schedule on the screen outside the service center.

As responsible teacher you should, at least once during the examination, visit the examination rooms and where applicable, group rooms, in order to answer questions and check for pocket calculators, books and similar. Be prepared to show your ID to the invigilator. The teacher must be available via telephone during the examination. This means that if you cannot be reached on your work telephone, you should provide an alternative telephone number to the examination administrators on which you can be reached.

Remember that students with special needs may have been provided longer time to write their exam than scheduled, and can therefore start or finish two, to two and a half hours, before or after the normal time for the examination. For examinations at Borggården this information is sent out by the Funka-coordinators. Contact tentafunka@kth.se if you have questions. For examinations in Kista the teacher should find for how long the group rooms have been reserved for the examination and make one or several extra visits to rooms, out of the normal examination time. You can get this information from education-support@eecs.kth.se.

After examination

After examination, the examination administrator gathers all the examinations and scans them. After the first scanning, eduacation-support will send you an e-mail with inforrmation on when and where the exminations are available for collection. Once the examinations have been marked, they should be returned to the nearest service center for a second scanning. The grades should be registered within 15 working days.

Mark digitally

All exams can be marked digitally in Canvas with the function KTH Import Exams . Please inform education-support when you choose to mark digitally.

When the exam administration has received written exams, these are scanned and verified. Once the exams are ready to be corrected, you will receive an email from education-support stating that you can import the exams into Canvas. The same practice applies here; grades should be reported within 15 working days.

Suspicion of cheating

In the event of suspected cheating, the exam administrators send a copy of the report and the material concerned by the allegation to you as a course coordinator/examiner, which you then forward to the disciplinary board. Please also see Report of disciplinary offence  at KTH's central intranet. Note that the current exam is not scanned or sent for marking. Notify education support as soon as possible if you decide to proceed with the case or not.
