Establishment of a freestanding course

Freestanding courses are open to both external applicants and programme students at KTH. A freestanding course can either be a new course or an existing programme course open to external applicants.

The form of financing for freestanding courses differs from regular programme courses. The range of courses offered is decided by KTH’s president twice a year for the upcoming autumn and spring semesters.

Process for offering a freestanding course

  1. Twice a year, in April and September, the school’s office of student affairs sends an inquiry to the school's director of studies about the range of freestanding courses.
  2. The directors of studies forward the request to the teachers in the division, who give feedback if they are interested in offering a freestanding course.
  3. The director of studies ensures that there are resources available to give the course and conveys the requests to the school’s office of student affairs.
  4. The school’s office of student affairs sends the proposals to the school's GA group for approval.
  5. A document with received and approved proposals is completed by the school’s office of student affairs for decision by the president.

If a new course is to be established

The school’s office of student affairs provides instructions for setting up the course to the relevant teachers. The school's faculty board decides whether a course should be approved and approves the syllabus. The school’s office of student affairs then establishes a course offering in Kopps.

If an existing course is to be offered

The school’s office of student affairs establishes a course offering for a freestanding course in Kopps.

Publication of freestanding course

The course is announced on antagning.se during any of the periods:

  • 17 February to 17 March for summer courses.
  • 15 March to 15 April for courses offered in the autumn semester.
  • 15 September to 15 October for courses offered in the spring semester.

Schedule

The school’s office of student affairs informs the relevant teachers when it is time to submit the basis for schedule for the course.
