Leveraging the submariner network for EU funding opportunities: A pathway for KTH researchers

Published Oct 23, 2024

KTH researchers have a unique opportunity to explore EU funding opportunities through KTH's involvement in the Submariner network. Specialising in marine research and the "blue economy," Submariner-network participation can strengthen applications for EU funding within Horizon Europe, ERA-NET, and Interreg, making it an invaluable resource for KTH researchers working in related fields.

Fredrik Gröndahl, who is closely involved with the Submariner network, emphasizes its importance for KTH.

"Submariner is a powerful consortium that prioritizes KTH researchers in funding applications, provided they are willing to engage actively," says Fredrik Gröndahl. "Through our participation, we’ve managed to bring millions of euros in funding back to KTH through projects related to the blue economy."

According to Gröndahl, Submariner’s success rate speaks volumes: the network has generated 46 projects, with a combined budget of nearly 1.8 billion SEK. With a grant approval rate of over 50% when leading proposals, Submariner is a proven platform for securing large-scale EU funding. Researchers at KTH have consistently benefited from the network, and active participation can lead to both financial support and new collaborative opportunities with leading marine research institutions across Europe.

Other Networks: Crowdhelix for Broader EU Collaboration

For researchers seeking opportunities beyond marine research, the Crowdhelix network is another valuable resource. Specializing in EU funding and matchmaking, Crowdhelix connects researchers with partners across Europe to form consortia for Horizon Europe and other EU programs. It broadens the range of funding opportunities available to KTH researchers by facilitating interdisciplinary collaboration.
