Dear all,

Yesterday the KTH board decided to reduce the number of campuses from five to three, meaning that Campus Södertälje and Kista moves mainly to our central campus. Our sister department, Production, is divided between Södertälje and Stockholm and will be affected greatly, the staff in Södertälje will move to our campus. In the long term, it means that the cost for our rent can be reduced since the facilities in Södertälje and Kista will be released, in the medium term it means that it’s likely that the empty corridors of our building will be used by the staff from Södertälje. One aspect that we now will look into is if we’d be able to share some of our existing facilities; labs, prototyping center, meeting rooms etc – which I think is interesting now when the utilization of our own facilities still is low, quite far away from the pre-pandemic situation.

On Wednesday I participated in a “Digital Futures Faculty Workshop”, to discuss faculty development. I noted many “young” faculty, networking and eager to find the keys and mechanisms for faculty development (how to make career). I however found it surprising to see only one other colleague from MMK, while perhaps 50+ came from the EECS school, so I’d really like to emphasize that Digital Futures provides an environment that I think many MMK people would benefit from.
