The winner of the 2025 edition of the “Supervisor of the Year” award is Professor Linda Lundström at the Department of Applied Physics at the SCI School. Professor Lundström has demonstrated a remarkable commitment as a supervisor of her doctoral students.
Linda Lundström teaches optics at both KTH and Karolinska Institutet. She is also the program coordinator for the optometry education and supervises doctoral students.
How does it feel to be recognized as Supervisor of the Year by the students?
"I feel very glad and honoured to receive this recognition by the PhD chapter. At the same time, it is also a bit daunting - there are so many dedicated and hardworking supervisors at KTH! But I’ll do my best to continue supporting PhD students in the best way I can."
Can you share a memorable moment or project that stands out from your time supervising students?
"Some of the best moments are when a student overcomes a challenge - like getting a complicated lab setup to work or kicking off a new project. Seeing their pride in what they’ve achieved, and watching them become more confident and independent, is also very rewarding."
What do you see as the future of academic supervision in a rapidly changing research landscape?
"I believe personal mentoring will continue to be essential. At the same time, collaborations will be increasingly important, both on local, national, and international level. Just like in education, we also need to keep up with new tools and technologies, to perform research in the most efficient way."
