Doktoral survey 2025

In February, KTH, in collaboration with the PhD Chapter, will send out a new and revised survey to your KTH e-mail address.

The survey will cover different areas, such as information and introduction, study environment, supervision, courses and the third-cycle education.

The results of this survey will contribute to the development, quality and relevance of the KTH doctoral programmes. We would also like to understand what issues you have as doctoral students and to make the study environment as positive as possible. To this end, it is very important for KTH and the PhD Chapter to find out your viewpoints and experiences of your education. This survey is part of the quality assurance system at KTH.
The survey responses will, among other things, be used by Programme Directors and Directors of third-cycle education to analyze the programs and doctoral education at each school. The results of the analyses will be discussed in dialogues with the schools' Faculty Boards and KTH's management and rector in spring 2025. The analysis work and dialogues lead to prioritization of measures and development efforts for doctoral education.

Your answers are important

Taking part in this survey is voluntary, but your participation is very important. If the results of the survey are to be valid and truly representative, it is vital that as many doctoral students as possible answer these questions. Only you can decide to take part or not – your answers cannot be replaced by someone else’s. We hope that you will be able to see the value of participating in this survey. The PhD Chapter has a gift for you as a thank-you for participating in the survey
Anonymised answers and ice cream
Once we have collected the answers, they are anonymized and used to generate data reports to the central KTH and PhD Chapter. We will also take measures to make sure that no one will be "identifiable" in cases where there are very few doctoral students in a department or division. When the information is presented, no single individual can be identified.
The PhD Chapter has a gift for you as a thank-you for participating in the survey! Although your responses are anonymous, we can confirm your participation, enabling you to claim an ice cream from Pressbyrån to enjoy during this beautiful spring. Rest assured, we cannot see your individual answers. The system tracks who have participated, but there is no link between the responses and participation data, which is handled exclusively by the PhD Chapter
You will find more information about the survey and how your personal data will be processed on this webpage and further down in this message.

Who uses the answers and how?

Once we have collected the answers, they are anonymised and used to generate data reports to the central KTH and PhD Chapter. After further processing, reports are delivered to the involved at KTH such as the director of third-cycle education, programme director, faculty board and the PhD Chapter.
In order not to ask more than necessary, we will supplement your answers with information about sex, age, and information about your education that is already available in Ladok.

How are the answers protected?

When the information is presented, no single individual can be identified.
Information about an individual’s personal conditions is held confidential and all those who work on the survey are bound by professional secrecy. Confidentiality applies under Chapter 24, Section 8 of the Public Access to Information and Secrecy Act (2009:400). The same requirements for confidentiality apply to KTH.
How will my personal data be processed?

KTH is the controller of personal data that is processed by KTH.
Rules on processing personal data are contained in the EU General Data Protection Regulation, the Official Statistics Act (2001:99) and the Official Statistics Ordinance (2001:100). In addition, there are rules in the Act on Supplementary Provisions to the EU General Data Protection Regulation (2018:218) and in regulations issued in association with the act.
If you believe that KTH has processed your personal data in a way that infringes the EU General Data Protection Regulation, you have the right, under certain circumstances, to have your personal data erased.
