Change to default due time in Canvas
On Monday, 31 October, the default due time in Canvas will change from 23:59 to 19:00. The default due time is the time that is pre-filled when you as a teacher choose the due date for an assignment. The change is being made to help teachers encourage students to study during the daytime. Teachers who want a different time can change the default due time for their course room.
The default due time changes from 23:59 to 19:00
The default due time in Canvas is the time that is suggested when you as a teacher choose the due date for an assignment. The default due time can be set at the course level, but the preset time for all rooms in Canvas will now change from 23:59 to 19:00.
The change will be implemented on Monday, 31 October and will not affect assignments that have already been created.

Change in due time encourages daytime studying
Previously, it has not been possible to change the default due time, but recently Canvas has been updated so that KTH has the ability to choose another time. According to KTH's guideline about the arragement and planning of the academic year (pdf, Swedish) , teaching and examination should primarily take place during weekdays at 8:00-17:00. The 19:00 due time is suitable for students to be able to complete and submit assignments after an afternoon lecture. This provides a more inclusive examination for those who cannot work in the evenings. By having a due time more linked to expected working hours for students, we encourage students to study during the daytime.
The choice of the time 19:00 has been made in consultation with the student union.
Teachers choose which due time an assignment should have
As a teacher, you can decide the due time yourself according to what is suitable for your examination, regardless of what the default due time is set for. There are no central rules regarding the due time that applies at KTH.
Remind students of the due time
The students will be informed about the change in Canvas, but it is important that you as a teacher also inform the students about the specific times you use for assignments on your course. Keep in mind that students are often used to having 23:59 as a due time, so if you use a different time, it is extra important to alert your students to it. Also consider whether the students need to be given the assignment earlier.
