Improving on-campus digital examinations with Canvas/Möbius and AI

The project involves mapping opportunities and tools for examining different types of knowledge with on-campus digital exams in both a qualitative and efficient manner. To make the correction assessment more efficient, a greater element of automatic correction assessment can be used, possibly with the help of AI.

Mapped principles

The project is mapped to the following framework principles:

P4. Assessment and examination for learning

P3. Active student-centred learning

P5. Available experimental environments

This project is implemented at the School of Industrial Engineering and Management (ITM) within the Future Education programme (project no. 2518-ITM).

Project context

Students' learning is largely determined by the design of the examination. With the increased use of AI, supervised on-campus examinations become more important. There are therefore obvious reasons to both improve and streamline on-campus examinations, and this requires a transition to on-campus digital examinations. In order to be able to examine various knowledge and skills with computers, it is desirable to map and creatively use the tools that are already in our systems, such as Canvas/Möbius. To streamline assessment, a large element of automatic assessment can be used. However, today's automatic asssessment is not sufficient in all contexts, and therefore there is reason to investigate how AI can be used to streamline the assessment that is currently done manually and thereby increase the degree of automatic assessment.

Purpose (outcome)

The purpose is to identify opportunities and tools for examining different types of knowledge with on-campus digital examinations in both a qualitative and efficient manner.

Project results (output)

Suggestions and examples of how existing tools Canvas/Möbius and AI can be used to examine different types of knowledge with on-campus digital exams.
