To strengthen and facilitate course evaluation and course analysis, KTH is introducing a new system with a higher degree of automation. The new system will be integrated into Canvas and tested during spring and summer 2024.

Easy to follow up your course

The processes and support for course evaluation and course analysis are now being developed by introducing a system that simplifies the work for teachers, ensures that all students are given the opportunity to respond to the surveys and enables automatic publication of course analyses. Uniform templates for course evaluation, course analysis and action plans for courses with identified shortcomings will also be introduced.

– The new system is more automated and better integrated with Canvas, which will facilitate the work and reduce the time spent by teachers. It should be easy to follow up your course, says Leif Gifvars, Quality Assurance Officer at KTH's University Management Office.

The reason for developing the new system is, among other things, that shortcomings in courses can persist from year to year, that teachers find the current system, LEQ, complicated and that there are no clear processes for how course evaluations and course analyses should be done. Challenges with current course evaluations are also that surveys are not uniform, that there is a low response rate from students and that course analyses are rarely published.

The system is being developed this spring

During the spring, the system will be developed and tested before its implementation in the autumn term 2024. Usability tests of the system will be carried out and templates for course evaluation and course analysis are developed in consultation with the Faculty Council and Directors of First and Second Cycle Education. During period 4, a pilot will also take place to test the automation process.

Part of KTH's new quality system

The project to develop a new IT system support for course evaluation and course analysis is led by the IT department through Sub-Portfolio Education , who are developing the new system support on behalf of the Faculty Council. The project is part of the ongoing work to implement the revised quality system for education.

New guideline for quality work is ready (article 8 January 2024)

The project in brief

  • The new system is Artologik Survey&Report adapted to KTH's needs. The current system LEQ  will be phased out as the new system is introduced.
  • The system will be tested during the spring semester 2024 (VT24) and introduced live during the autumn semester 2024 (HT24).
  • Course evaluations will be done automatically with clearer templates, which reduces the workload for teachers.
  • Trainings, templates and recommendations for the new system will be offered.
