When theoretical physics meets biology. Analazing the health of the Amazonian forest from the sound of bats

Nowadays the Ecuadorian Amazon is under the pressure of oil extraction. Several oil extraction platforms stress the ecosystem mechanisms in a underterminated radius around each platform. Bats, because of its sensibility to noise and luminical contamination, are a perfect mirror to measure the impact of oil extraction on the Amazon. On the other hand, bats are easy to detect through their ultrasonic vocalizations. This is a story about how theoretical physicists can help biologists to analyze big amounts of data to extract conclusions about a very complex biological system.
