Credit transfer of courses and other activities

Courses or other activities completed during your PhD studies that are not established courses at KTH must be credited in order to receive higher education credits for the activity undertaken.  

Starting November 1st 2026, course credit transfer applications are submitted directly in Ladok rather than via a form.

How to apply for credit transfer in Ladok:

  1. Ensure that you have the required documentation and meet any specific conditions:
    • Course certificate or transcript
    • Course syllabus or equivalent
    • If the course is not established at a Swedish university: Also attach a schedule, certificate and information about how the activity was examined.
  2. Fill in the validation form*: the validation form (docx 73 kB)  You may apply for several courses at the same time, but each course requires a separate attachment.
  3. Log in to Ladok for students , select “Credit transfer”, click “Apply” and follow the instructions in the application workflow. Upload all supporting documents.

*The validation form should be used for a course or workshop (national or international) that is not established at a Swedish university. For conferences, the form should not be used.

Credit transfer of courses completed prior to doctoral studies  

At the time of admission, you may apply to transfer credits from previous studies. Note that the eligibility requirements are 180 credits at bachelor level and 60 credits at master level. You may only transfer credits exceeding these requirements. Also remember that you must earn at least 45 doctoral-level credits out of the 60 credits required for the degree. Therefore, transferring more than 15 credits from a previous master’s programme becomes unnecessary.
