Exams during the Spring 2021

Published Feb 02, 2021

There are new directives regarding the courses from the autumn semester 2020: The courses from P1 that have used written hall exams on both occasions (October and December) must offer an extra examination opportunity that can be performed at a distance.

The examiner decides him/herself which type of distance examination to use, but the GA group needs to get information about this immediately so we know when it is necessary to book invigilators. Fill in this form and tell which method you want to use:

Extra Exam Opportunity Academic Year 20-21

The form also asks when you want this opportunity, but central KTH has now said that these extra opportunities preferably should take place during weeks 8 and 9, so to make it as simple as possible, we at CBH will "copy" the exam schedule from P1 and put it on 25/2 - 5/3 (so that the exams that were on the first day of P1's exam period will be on 25/2, etc.). However, we will move long exams from afternoon to morning, so that IT support is available throughout the exam time. Each examiner will later this week receive a proposal for when the exam in resp. course then should lie. This does not apply to exams for the preparatory year, where we have to work separately and coordinate the different campuses.

Students will register as for regular exams, but for those courses that intend to use oral or other individual examination, students will not see any time slot in the registration, but the examiner may contact those who registered and agree on a time.

This applies to all courses that have used written hall examination, even if there are more than two occasions during the academic year. However, the extra opportunity is only open to students who have participated in a maximum of one of the opportunities offered, if they have tried twice, they may not take advantage of this extra opportunity (unless the examiner him/herself wants to offer it as an opportunity open to all, but, since there as usual will be a shortage of invigilators, we ask you not to be too generous with this if you want a supervised exam). We will NOT request a medical certificate or the like for students to prove that it was the Covid problem that caused them to forgo an opportunity, but they will be informed that this is the reason why the extra opportunity is offered, so we hope that the number of old students who show up just to "chance" can be minimized. The examiners do not have to check who meets the requirement to participate in the extra opportunity, after registration this is checked and the examiners get the list of names of those who are entitled to the extra opportunity. "Plussning" will not be allowed at this time.

For courses that were given in P2, exactly the same procedure will be applied, but there it is intended that the extra opportunities will be given during the period 3/5 - 21/5. Opportunity number two has not been given yet (the re-examination is in the Easter period) and some examiners have asked if they instead of giving an extra opportunity can change their exam at Easter from hall to distance. This is allowed for small courses at master's level, but for courses at preparatory and basic level it is not possible. The GA group want the majority of the students there to choose the usual opportunity in the hall (for reasons of justice and practicality). Here too, however, we’re happy if the examiners can fill in the form right now and state how they want to carry out the extra opportunity.

As for courses in P3 and P4, we do not yet know what will happen with extra opportunities, we need to see how the corona situation develops, but we need to immediately get information from the examiners who have not yet stated how they want to examine at the "regular" opportunities . For master's courses, written hall examination is not allowed during the spring semester, but Zoom-monitored exams can be accepted if there are good reasons for it (however, other methods that do not require external invigilators are strongly encouraged). Fill in this form if you want a Zoom-monitored exam:

Application to have Zoom-monitored written examination Spring 2021

For courses at the undergraduate level, you can apply for an exemption for even a written hall exam, and then you use this form:

Application to have room-based written examination Spring 2021

For courses in P3, the same deadline applies as above, i.e. Wednesday February 3rd, so do this immediately if you have not already filled it out. Of course, we are also happy to receive the information for courses in P4 as soon as possible.
