Amelie on the past year

Published Dec 20, 2023

Head of School Amelie Eriksson Karlström writes about her first, eventful, year as Head of School at CBH School – and sends a Christmas greeting to all employees.

The year is coming to an end, and I would like to take the opportunity to wish everyone at CBH School a very Merry Christmas! For me personally, 2023 has been an intense year as the new Head of School. For the most part, it has been both fun and exciting, especially because I have had the opportunity to get to know you who work at the school much better.

It has been particularly interesting to follow the President and Deputy President’s departmental visits, where the departments have presented themselves and showcased their research and teaching. The school has an impressive breadth and many committed employees. We conduct research that in many cases is world-class and provide our students with programmes of very high relevance.

In 2023, KTH has produced a new vision and goal document for the next 5-year period and there are now overarching goals that KTH's education should be of the highest quality and internationally competitive, that KTH's research should be internationally leading and have a major impact, that KTH's work and study environment should be attractive, inclusive and equal, and that KTH's working methods should be efficient, sustainable and forward-looking. I am convinced that we at the CBH school have good conditions for working together with the rest of KTH towards these goals!

2023 has been an eventful year at KTH with the campus review, review of the internal resource allocation models, etc. and I think we must be prepared for the fact that 2024 will also bring many changes. We can already see that we will need to continue to work actively to balance our finances, for example by reviewing the utilisation of premises and other costs.

On the revenue side, I hope that next year we can also be successful in attracting external research funding, which is an important part of the school's finances and a prerequisite for our strong research. In January, the new faculty boards will start their work, which I believe will play a very important role in the development of the school.

In conclusion, I hope you all have a wonderful Christmas and New Year's holiday, with good food, relaxation and good company with family and friends. I know that some of you are taking the opportunity to leave Stockholm and I wish you a pleasant journey. See you in 2024!
