Amelie on collegiate influence

Head of School Amelie Eriksson Karlström writes about the plans to establish collegial school committees at KTH.

This week I have been on a conference with the President and KTH's management team. It was two intensive half-days, during which we had time to discuss many topics. A big and important question that was discussed was how KTH can best organize collegiate influence in the future. Earlier this year, the President appointed an investigator, Gunnar Svedberg, who has recently presented a report with his thoughts on collegiate influence. In the report, it is proposed that a so-called school committee – a collegially elected body – be established at each school, which according to the proposal will have both preparatory and decision-making tasks. The President's aim with the new structure is to strengthen collegiate influence at KTH and ensure that matters where subject competence is essential, for example matters relating to education and recruitment, are handled at a level that is closer to the activities within the subject area. The plan is for the new school committees to be in place as early as January 2024, but there is still a lot of work to be done to define the board's responsibilities and duties.

Other issues that were discussed at the management group conference were the work with KTH's upcoming development plan, the status of the ongoing campus review, follow-up of KTH's finances, and an initial discussion about KTH's contribution to the next research proposal. All important questions, which we will have reason to return to during the autumn.
