Amelie on KTH's career system

Published Oct 30, 2024

Head of School Amelie Eriksson Karlström writes about the inquiry of KTH's career system and the mapping of the CBH School's faculty.

Since last spring, the Vice Dean, Nina Cyrén Wormbs, and an external investigator, Ann Fust, have conducted an inquiry of KTH's career system. The investigators have presented their preliminary conclusions and proposals to KTH's management team, the schools' faculty boards and the FFA group. A final report will be presented at the end of October. Based on the report, certain changes will be proposed to KTH's career system, which we will have the opportunity to comment on.

In parallel with KTH's inquiry of the career system, we at the CBH School have been working on mapping the existing faculty, with the aim of developing a proposal for a sustainable dimensioning of the faculty and a future recruitment strategy. When talking to staff at the school, a desire to see a higher degree of basic funding for research and teaching staff is often heard. The School's faculty currently needs to cover a large part of its salary costs, rent and overheads with external funds and spends a lot of time writing applications. At the same time, there are often requests in the organisation to recruit new assistant and associate professors, which clashes with the ambition to strengthen base funding. This is an important issue for the school and we need to come up with a long-term strategy for the development and dimensioning of the faculty.
