Amelie on new forms of course survey and course analysis
Head of Scholl Amelie Eriksson Karlström writes about new forms of course survey and course analysis that are being introduced within the quality system for courses throughout KTH.
After a long period of planning and pilot rounds during the autumn, new forms of course survey and course analysis are now being introduced within the quality system for courses throughout KTH. This is part of the larger quality system for education at KTH, which also includes, for example, programme follow-up.
For the courses given in period 3, i.e. right now, a course survey will be automatically generated for the students, where they can answer questions about the course content and implementation. The course survey, together with other feedback on the course, will then form the basis for the course analysis that the course coordinator will carry out.
An important innovation compared to the previous system is that an action plan needs to be drawn up if the course survey gives excessively low marks for the course. The aim of the new system is to make it easier to identify problem courses and to ensure that measures are implemented to develop the course and address quality deficiencies. This requires collaboration between the Course Coordinator, Programme Director, Director of First and Second Cycle Education (GA) and Head of Department to ensure that the measures are adequate and implemented.
The School's Faculty Board is then responsible for following up the action plans annually. As this is a relatively big change in working practices, it will certainly take a while for everyone to find their roles and for the system to settle down, but hopefully it can help to develop the school's courses in a positive direction.
