Amelie on Mats Nilsson
Head of School Amelie Eriksson Karlström writes about Mats Nilsson who recently passed away after a long illness. Mats was a beloved colleague and friend to many at CBH School.
The past week has been sad and overwhelming for me and for many others at the CBH School, after we first received information about our colleague Mats Nilsson's serious illness, and then shortly afterwards the news of his death. Many people at the school, especially in Flemingsberg, had worked closely with Mats for a very long time. From the reactions over the past week, I have also understood that Mats was not only an important person for us at the CBH School, but that he was also a highly appreciated, respected and well-liked colleague at KTH in general.
I personally got to know Mats Nilsson when the CBH School was established in 2018. As the school's first Director of Undergraduate Education, he played an important role in coordinating education at the new school. Since 2024, I have also met Mats regularly in the newly formed Faculty Board of the CBH School, where Mats served as a collegially elected teacher member. Mats had just been given a new assignment in the program management of the change program Future Education at KTH and we looked forward to the fact that he, with his enormous experience and commitment to the students, would have the opportunity to work with educational development projects at KTH in a new role. It feels incredibly sad that it did not happen, and it will be empty without Mats at our meetings in the future.
There are memorial places for those who want to remember Mats and perhaps write a few words in a memorial book, both in Flemingsberg and at Teknikringen. There will also be a memorial service in Flemingsberg next Tuesday, where both students and staff are welcome. I hope to see many of you at the memorial, either in person or on Zoom, so that we can remember Mats together. I know that many of you are very affected by Mats' passing. At the same time, I am grateful that you are honoring his memory by taking care of students, courses and other things that need to be handled in this special situation. Take care of yourselves!
